Section 2. Melodic Dictation

You will hear melodies that are two measures in length. There are no upbeats. The key and time signatures are provided to you on each blank staff, as is the first note of the melody. Click the Play button to hear each exercise. Before each melody begins, you will hear the notes of the pentachord played stepwise up and down, then you will hear the tempo counted off. As you listen, try to assign solfège syllables to what you hear. Using your own staff paper, write each melody using the correct rhythm. It may be helpful to notate the rhythm separately below the staff before you begin to write the melody.
